RESEARCH

I am interested in doing both morphological and molecular taxonomy of angiosperm to solve taxonomic problems. Mainly interested in plant species belonging to the families such as lamiaceae, zingiberaceae, poaceae, orchidaceae, piperaceae, etc

Morphological taxonomy

After collection, the collected plant specimens will be then identified in two ways holistically and analytically. Holistically means identification of plants based on our experience/knowledge. If we have no knowledge about the plant we will go for analytical method by using a dissection microscope and available literature.

Karyological studies

I am interested in learning cytological techniques to address polyploi-dization or whole genome duplication events which was happened many times during the evolution of flowering plants.

Molecular taxonomy

The genetic material (DNA) is extracted from the collected plant samples and can be used for the amplification of some DNA regions which is further helpful for elucidating the phylogenetic relationships between plant species. Use of whole genome, especially whole chloroplast genome, for constructing phylogenetic trees now increasing day by day.

Ecological studies

Ecology is a branch of biology concerning interactions among organisms and their biophysical environment, which includes both biotic and abiotic components. Ecological data is also helpful to study how these factors influence speciation.
